Man killed in three-car A38 crash near M6 Spaghetti Junction as police arrest two

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a fatal crash on the A38M in Birmingham this morning (June 2). The three-car crash happened on the Aston Expressway shortly after midnight.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, a man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said two people left the scene before officers arrived, but were later tracked to an area away from the collision.

Two men, aged 27 and 24, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remain in police custody. Officers are examining CCTV and dash cam footage.

The A38M, which leads to the M6, was closed for around 12 hours after the tragedy. The main route was reopened around 12.40 today.

Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes from West Midlands Police said: “Unfortunately we are dealing with a very serious collision and we are working with partner agencies to establish what caused this collision. Our thoughts are with the family of the man who passed away.

“The road has now reopened and I would like to thank everyone for their patience with the closures while we gathered evidence and made the road safe. I would ask anyone who witnessed the collision or who has a dash0cam and has not yet spoken to us to come forward with any information you may have, no matter how small.”
