Hull City and West Brom are eyeing Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass

Sheffield Wednesday striker Josh Windass has appeared on the radar of Hull and West Brom, as detailed in a report by The Star.

Sheffield Wednesday face a battle to keep hold of the striker this summer amid interest from elsewhere in the Football League. His contract at Hillsborough expires at the end of next month and he is set to become a free agent as things stand.

Windass, 30, is in ongoing talks with the Owls over his future after the end of the 2023/24 season as they managed to stay in the Championship under Danny Rohl. He has been with the South Yorkshire outfit since 2020 and has a big decision to make regarding his situation.

In this latest update on his future by The Star, other second-tier clubs such as Hull City, West Brom and Stoke City are considering a swoop for him ahead of the next campaign. Derby County have also been credited with an interest following their promotion from League One.

THE QUIZ STARTS!

Hull City have also been linked with Windass in the past due to his father’s links to the club. His father Dean scored the winner in the 2008 play-off final against Bristol City at Wembley to earn the Tigers their first promotion to the Premier League.

The East Yorkshire band are currently without a manager after the surprise decision to cut ties with Liam Rosenior earlier this week. They finished 7th last term and were three points off the final play-offs.

As for West Brom, they are in the play-off semi-finals against Southampton as they look to reach the final and have the first leg against Southampton on Sunday afternoon at the Hawthorns.

The Tigers and Baggies could see Windass as someone to bolster their attacking departments for the future. However, their transfer plans will both be up in the air right now.

Sheffield Wednesday signed him on an initial loan deal before making the switch permanent shortly after.

He scored the winner for them in last year’s League One play-off final against Barnsley.

The Hull man has made 126 appearances for the Owls in all competitions to date and has scored 37 goals, seven of which came last season.

Before moving to his current club, he had spells at Accrington Stanley, Rangers and Wigan Athletic.

What’s next for Sheffield Wednesday?

Sheffield Wednesday will be praying that Rohl stays put this summer and can also retain the services of Windass.

He has a lot of interest and needs to weigh what to do next. The Owls finished 20th at the end, three points above the drop zone, after winning 2-0 away at Sunderland on the final day.
