Women’s FA Cup Final LIVE! Manchester United vs Tottenham match stream, latest team news, lineups, TV today

Women’s FA Cup Final LIVE!

Manchester United and Tottenham meet in the FA Women’s Cup final today in front of a sell-out crowd at Wembley. One of those clubs will lift their first major piece of silverware this afternoon when a new name appears on the trophy.

This is a more familiar stage for United, who reached the FA Cup final a year ago when they fell short against Chelsea. They went some way to avenging that defeat by beating the Blues in the last four this season, setting up another shot at Wembley glory.

Spurs sit sixth in the Women’s Super League, one place behind United, and it has been a hugely promising first campaign under Robert Vilahamn. Tottenham have never beaten United but were seconds away from doing so just a few weeks ago before Maya Le Tissier struck with a stoppage-time equaliser. Vilahamn talks about the excitement at Wembley

Tottenham boss Robert Vilahamn insisted he will watch today’s final with great pride, regardless of the result.

“I remember when I was a kid, that stadium was the biggest I knew and so it was my dream to get there one day,” said the 41-year-old.

“I’ve been working pretty hard for 30 years to get to this stadium, so it’s more like enjoying the ride. The feelings it evokes are of course a mixture of stress and happiness.

“But I’m looking forward to the game more and I hope we win. If we lose I’ll be very upset, but I know a few weeks after that I’ll still be very proud of what we did, so it’s a good feeling.”

The atmosphere is building…

It’s starting to fill up outside Wembley with just over an hour and a half to kick-off.

Glorious afternoon.

Skinner: Defeat in the end can give us extra momentum

12:47 p.m , Matt Verri

Marc Skinner urged his side to use last season’s final defeat as extra motivation this afternoon.

Man United were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea at Wembley in the showpiece event 12 months ago and are now looking to go one better.

“They have to, they have to feed on it,” Skinner said. “When the injury hits, you feel it and you can remember it, it can be a boost and a motivation factor.

“That’s how you have to use it. You have to bring those feelings back and give more. Nobody is guaranteed to win this final, but we have to give everything to make sure the performance is worthy of it.

“You’d be a fool to go in and feel very confident going into this final. Tottenham are a very, very good team. On their day, they can beat anyone in this league.”

Spurs bid for one-club ethos

12:39 p.m , Matt Verri

Last summer, when Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was deciding what type of manager was needed to take the men’s club forward, a similar conversation was taking place among the powerhouses of the women’s team, who were also looking for a new boss.

Spurs Women’s managing director Andy Rogers met with the club’s academy director Simon Davies to find out how they could line up the squads.

“We wanted to figure out, ‘How do we want to play?’, with a one-club mentality at the forefront of it all,” Rogers said. “So, ‘What’s the vision for the men’s team?’ and we should try to line up the women’s team similarly.”

Vilahamn was a risky choice to lead the new project, having spent just three seasons as a top coach in his native Sweden and a year in the women’s game.

But the 41-year-old has quickly transformed Spurs into a stylish, modern side, with Martha Thomas’ outstanding winner in the 1-0 win over Arsenal in December the best example of their brave football.

The last time they met…

12:31 p.m , Matt Verri

Tottenham have never beaten Man United, but they came very close to doing so just a few weeks ago.

They held a 2-1 away lead before stoppage time, but Maya Le Tissier equalized to earn a point.

Spurs will have taken a lot of confidence from that game though…

Tottenham’s road to Wembley

Spurs’ FA Cup campaign all but ended in January against Sheffield United in the fourth round.

They were 2-1 down with ten minutes to go but equalized and then grabbed a 96th minute winner to progress.

Tottenham then got past Charlton before beating Man City on penalties in the quarter-finals.

Again, they came from behind in the last four, scoring late on to send it into extra time and then beating Leicester with a 2-1 win after a 118th-minute winner from Martha Thomas.

Two comfortable wins against Newcastle and Southampton helped United progress to the quarter-finals, where they cruised to a 4-0 win over Brighton.

That set up a semi-final clash with Chelsea, one which United won 2-1 to book their place at Wembley.

Now just one win away from their first major piece of silverware.

First time winner!

There will be a new name on the FA Cup trophy this afternoon.

Neither side has ever won the competition – we can be pretty confident that won’t be the case by the end of the day.

Standard sports forecast

12:01 a.m , Matt Verri

Spurs go into this final on a seven-match unbeaten run and can take confidence from their trip to face United a few weeks ago, when they were only denied victory by a 92nd-minute equalizer from Maya Le Tissier.

United have had a rather frustrating season, unable to build on their impressive WSL last term, but they have the chance to end it on a hugely positive note.

It promises to be a tight final, but United’s experience of playing in this game 12 months ago could give them the edge.

Man United will win, 2-1.

News about the Tottenham team

11:54 , Matt Verri

Grace Clinton is ineligible for Tottenham against her parent club, but Celin Bizet is available again after returning from an ankle injury last time out against Everton. She played 12 minutes off the bench and will look to be involved from the start at Wembley.

Martha Thomas and Drew Spence are also fit, while Spurs hope to have Amy James-Turner back after she missed the trip to Everton with a “little problem”.

Man United team news

11:47 a.m , Matt Verri

Jayde Riviere provided an injury boost for Manchester United last weekend, featuring in the final 30 minutes on her return to the team.

Gabby George and Emma Watson are long-term absentees but there are not believed to be any new injury concerns.
