How the general election could affect July DWP benefits and state pension payments

Benefit recipients who are due to receive their payments around the July 4 election are raising concerns about how a potential change in government could affect their DWP payments next month. With the UK general election in the offing, and the major parties each having different visions for the future of the nation’s benefits systems, recipients may have to prepare for possible changes to their payments.

However, Britons can be relieved as most of the significant changes either party plans to implement if they win the election will not affect them until next month. Most of the proposed changes require a consultation period that could last months or even years.

Despite Election Day falling on 4th July, there are no anticipated changes to July State Pension and Benefit payment dates as there are no bank holiday reports Birmingham Live.

Those receiving the following benefits can expect payment dates to remain unchanged:.

  • universal credit,
  • State pension.
  • Retirement credit.
  • Child benefits.
  • Living allowance for disabled people.
  • Paying for personal independence.
  • Attendance allowance.
  • Carer’s Allowance.
  • Employment Support Allowance.
  • Income support.
  • Job seeker’s allowance.

As we move forward, those receiving benefits can expect changes as the winning party begins to implement the promises outlined in their manifestos. Labor has said it plans to review Universal Credit, renew work capacity assessments and suggest changes to help disabled people re-enter the workforce.

On the other hand, the Tories are keen to overhaul capacity assessments for Disability Allowance and introduce a new service to check medical notes. The Tories’ manifesto also includes plans to cut benefits for people who reject “suitable jobs” after receiving benefits for 12 months.
