How much Archie Gray will earn at Brentford as he closes in on £40m exit from Leeds United

Archie Gray is closing in on a £40million move to Premier League side Brentford from Leeds United and is now claimed to be in line for a massive pay rise.

The 18-year-old played for Leeds in 2023-24 in a number of positions. Mainly at right back, but also in central midfield and the 10 role as Leeds came in a moment of instant return to the Premier League.

Leeds were expected to keep hold of Gray, with the player making it clear throughout the season that he is simply delighted to play for Leeds and sign a new long-term deal in January.

But Brentford came and decided to take advantage of Leeds’ need to sell before the end of the calendar year in the eyes of the Profitability and Sustainability Rules by presenting a whopping £40m bid with add-ons.

How much will Gray earn at Brentford in the Premier League

Leeds clearly needed a name sale before July 1 to feel they would be complying with the rules. The July 1st deadline has turned into a mini-deadline for clubs to sell to avoid points deductions.

That also appears to be the case for Newcastle and Leicester as they close in on the sales of Yankuba Minteh to Burnley and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea, which sees Enzo Maresca pounce on his old side.

Leeds didn’t need the original £190m demands but had to sell a big player to beat them. Gray is certain to receive a pay rise, with TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook claiming he will receive £75,000 a week.

The 49ers backed themselves into a corner and were forced to trade Gray

The 49ers are not delusional, they know selling Gray will hurt Leeds fans and weaken their relationship with the supporters. Letting Gray go will have been their absolute last resort this summer.

But Leeds needed to sell to put them in a position where they were on the right side of the rules, and Gray is apparently the only offer on the table. Leeds fans are understandably furious that Gray is being sold.

However, the 49ers may not have a choice. With no offers on the table for Crysencio Summerville, Willy Gnonto or Illan Meslier, they could have been forced to accept the sale of teenager Gray.
