Trains are preparing to return to the Lilydale Line

Trains will resume running on the Lilydale line on Friday 5 July following the removal of level crossings at Dublin Road, Ringwood East and Coolstore Road, Croydon.

Crews have been working around the clock since Friday, May 24, in a final push to remove the two sets of boom gates and build the two new stations. The new Ringwood East station will open to passengers on Friday 5 July and the new Croydon station is due to open at the end of July.

In Ringwood East, crews are continuing to lay tracks in the new 650m rail trench and build the new Ringwood East station, which will have two entrances accessible by lifts and stairs, improved CCTV and lighting and more than 460 parking spaces.

Crews will remain in the area after the construction intervention to complete work on the station premises, including landscaping and car parking.

Work is also continuing to complete the construction of Croydon’s new rail bridge and premium station and to complete the new Kent Avenue connection to Lacey Street. This connection will also open on Friday 5 July, connecting Croydon town center and giving drivers and pedestrians a safer way to cross the railway line.

Work to complete the rest of the new Croydon Transport Centre, including the bus interchange, new road connections, landscaping and walking and cycling routes will continue in the spring.
