Brentford move for Archie Gray collapses as Leeds reject £40m bid amid interest from Tottenham

Brentford’s bid to sign Leeds midfielder Archie Gray has collapsed.

The 18-year-old was booked for a medical after personal terms were agreed for a £40m move.

But Leeds have now rejected the Bees’ approach after failing to agree a final fee and payment structure.

Tottenham remain strongly interested in Gray after his excellent season at Elland Road, which earned him an England Under-21 debut. Chelsea have also watched his progress recently.

It has been reported that Leeds are considering selling one or two of their star players who have failed to win promotion back to the Premier League, and Crysencio Summerville has also been tipped for a move to help meet financial regulations.

The collapse of the Gray deal leaves Brentford still hoping to strengthen their midfield options this summer after offloading Shandon Baptiste.

Igor Thiago is set to arrive as a key summer signing to improve the attack in a £33m deal agreed in February. Ivan Toney has been linked with an exit.
