Three weeks warning issued to all housing benefit recipients

A three-week warning has been issued to all those receiving housing benefit. These people should start being contacted by the DWP during June about important changes affecting their benefits.

It is part of a major process to move people on certain benefits to universal credit with a single payment. Applicants are sent migration notification letters at different times depending on the benefit they are on.

These important letters should not be ignored and tell claimants they have three months to apply for Universal Credit to ensure they are moved. If they miss the deadline, their benefits will stop because the process is not automatic.

People who only receive housing benefit are warned that they are next on the list. Migration notices will be issued to these applicants in June, which means these people should keep an eye on the letter and not ignore or throw it away.

Then in July it will be the turn of those on Employment Support Allowance with Child Tax Credits, followed by Jobseeker’s Allowance in September.
