Tottenham could now include two players in the deal for Leeds United talent Archie Gray today

Leeds United face a race against time to secure a deal for Archie Gray with Tottenham now leading the charge for the teenager and a potential cash-plus player deal on the cards.

The 18-year-old looked set to be on his way to west London and join Thomas Frank’s Brentford for a £40m fee. Gray even traveled to the capital on Saturday for a medical, but an offer has now been rejected.

Gray is happy to stay at Leeds but the 49ers have informed him he has to go as the club need to bring in some money to comply with profit and sustainability rules and Gray is being sacrificed.

Tottenham are now leading the charge for Gray, with the teenager changing his mind about a move to Brentford. Spurs and Leeds are in talks with a deal for Gray’s sale to be completed by July 1.

PSR rules saw Newcastle quickly offload both Yankuba Minteh and Elliot Anderson to Brighton and Forest for a combined fee of almost £70m. Leicester are set to sell Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to Chelsea.

However, Leeds could request a Spurs player in a move for Gray, according to a report in The Times. Two players are listed as potential makeweights, which would see Leeds get some cash and a player.

One, of course, is that of Wales star Joe Rodon, after the centre-back played over 50 times for the club last season. Rodon has been linked with all three newly promoted Premier League sides.

The other player, Tottenham, could offer Leeds in Grey

The Spurs triggered a contract extension on Rodon to take his deal through 2026, putting themselves in the best possible spot to receive a maximum fee. But he could be used in a trade for Gray this weekend.

The other player that Spurs can use is Oliver Skipp. Leeds are said to be interested in Skipp, a player who played under Daniel Farke at Norwich during their second promotion to the Premier League.

But, there are reservations about a deal that includes Skipp with Spurs back in Europe and which must include homegrown players. Skipp is a product of Tottenham’s academy and that makes him valuable in Spurs’ back end.
