Coventry City are open to offers from the ‘highest bidder’ amid transfer interest from two clubs

Matty Godden’s future at Coventry City could be decided this week, with reports that the club are ready to sell the striker to the “highest bidder”.

That’s according to The Sun’s transfer pundit Alan Nixon, who claims newly promoted Oxford United have joined League One side Charlton Athletic to sign the 32-year-old former Peterborough United goalscorer .

Godden fell out of favor with the Sky Blues last season after Ellis Simms and Haji Wright both finished last summer with 19 goals each. With game time increasingly limited, Godden is understood to have become frustrated and is now keen for more guaranteed first-team action.

Charlton were reported to be interested in early May, but the link remained quiet until this weekend when Nixon stated on his Patreon platform: “Coventry City will sell striker Matt Godden to the highest bidder this week – with Oxford and Charlton.

“Godden is likely to lose his place in Mark Robins’ squad next season and is keen for first-team football. Oxford have an interest as they stay level, but Charlton have the money and the ambition and can still beat them.”

CoventryLive understands City would be open to letting Godden leave for a fee, allowing Mark Robins to free up his wages for a younger alternative to come in and compete up front.
