Audience at BOO reform rally biased BBC as Farage tackles major controversy

The BBC has been booed by UK reform campaigners as Nigel Farage renews his “popular” pledge to ditch the broadcaster’s license fee.

The UK reform leader, who was speaking to supporters at the NEC in Birmingham, received a round of rousing applause when he criticized the BBC for its coverage of Question Time on Friday.

Farage told the audience that his appearance on Question Time was the “final peace” with the BBC.

He accused the BBC of showing “cynical bias” as the reform leader faced a “rigged audience”.

Speaking at his campaign rally, Farage said: “On the first day of the campaign I held an event in Dover where I spoke about one of my pet subjects, the boats crossing the English Channel.

“And it was interesting because the BBC news channel carried the speech live until they cut it off, with the presenters saying ‘we’ve dropped it because here’s Nigel Farage using his usual inflammatory language’.

The crowd started booing the BBC.

“I asked for an apology and I got one, which is remarkable,” he added, who then drew cheers from the audience.

Later in his speech, the reform leader added: “I’m fed up with the BBC.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“We will renew our campaign with more vigor to say that the state office has abused its position of power.

“And we will be campaigning as the main voice of the opposition, not just in parliament but across the country, campaigning for the abolition of the BBC license fee.”

Members of the audience gave Farage a standing ovation as they cheered and applauded the reform leader.

It comes after the Brexiteer refused to appear on the Laura Kuenssberg show until he received an apology from the BBC for their “dishonest Question Time audience”.

BBC Question Time has been branded “appalling” after it was accused of showing “cynical preparation” less than a week before the polls opened.

He was asked about Channel 4’s undercover report on controversial comments made by Clacton campaigners for the first half of his appearance.

The second section focused on Farage’s stance on immigration, but the Brexit stalwart failed to receive applause from the Birmingham audience.

Farage later wrote on social media: “Our state broadcaster has behaved like a political actor throughout this election.”
