The family of missing teenager Jay Slater have spoken of their devastation after it was announced the search to find him had been called off today (June 30). His parents Warren and Debbie and brother Zak were flying to Tenerife after Jay went missing while returning to his holiday accommodation.

The search for the British teenager lasted two weeks as drones, sniffer dogs and a helicopter tried to locate him, alongside rescue teams. According to The Sun, the family were left stunned by the Spanish police’s decision to end the search.




A family source told the newspaper that Jay’s parents and family are “broken and devastated”. Spanish authorities have announced that the search will end, but the investigation will remain open this morning.

It comes after a last ditch effort to find Jay yesterday (June 29) when Spanish police called on experienced volunteers to join the search in Masca, where Jay was last seen, but only six people volunteered to search area, BirminghamLive reported.

A spokeswoman for the Civil Guard said today: “The search operation has now ended, although the case remains open.”

Jay called friends on the morning of his disappearance on June 17 to say his phone was running out of battery while trying to get back to their holiday accommodation on the other side of the island from an Air BnB where he had stayed the night precedence. .
