Jay Slater’s ‘disturbing’ theory, as former detective says ‘over the last 24-48 hours’ after ‘sightings’

The search for missing Jay Slater continues this morning with a huge search planned for the teenage girl. It comes as the search for the 19-year-old apprentice bricklayer enters its 13th day.

Jay, from Lancashire, went missing after a night at the NRG festival at Papagayo nightclub in Playa de las Americas on June 17. He went with two men he had met at the festival to an Airbnb in the north of the island in Rural de Parcul Teno.

He called friends the next morning to say he was thirsty and trying to walk back to their holiday accommodation – a journey that would have taken nearly 11 hours. A former British detective who unmasked Jimmy Saville has now said Tenerife’s drug scene could play a role in its demise.

Mark Williams-Thomas told The Sun: “In the last 24-48 hours, information has come to light that raises concerns that drugs are a concern here. This is a line of inquiry.”

He added: “You get out of your car and within 30 seconds you’re being offered every type of drug imaginable – and that’s an alarming thing. it had a direct impact.”

It comes amid bizarre accounts from locals who claim to have seen Jay following Euro around the town where he disappeared. Mayor Emilio Jose Navarro said investigators spoke to several people who said Jay chased euros “down the coast.”

He said: “Locals have told me they have heard from others that they saw someone who looks like the boy in a bar in Los Gigantes. I have no idea if it was him and no idea what bars he was seen in. “I don’t know if the police were there.”
