But any expenditure requires the agreement of the American bidders and their intermediary Des Taylor.

Wilder is talking to free agents such as defender Sam McCallum as the EFL decide on the suitability of West Coast financiers.

The Blades have released 10 players following their relegation from the Premier League, although four remain in talks over a new deal.

They also said goodbye to four loanees, including James McAtee.

He is set to sign a new contract with Man City before returning on loan.

After two spells at Bramall Lane, he is unlikely to return for a third time.

City could end up loaning him to sister club Girona, who have qualified for the Champions League.

Meanwhile, John Egan could opt out of a new deal with the Blades.
