West London town that gives the name of 7 different railway stations

London’s vast transport network is notorious for confusing station names.

Abbey Wood is miles away from the Beatles’ Abbey Road, Clapham Junction is actually in Battersea, and Bank and Monument are inexplicably intertwined.




And let’s not even get started on the tongue-twisting pronunciations that leave tourists scratching their heads.

But there’s one area of ​​west London that takes the biscuit, lending its name to seven different stations on the Underground, Overground, National Rail and Elizabeth lines.

Amanda Knights of Acton History points out that many of today’s “Acton” stations do not actually fall within the traditional boundaries of Acton.

It is not in the old parish or the old municipal borough of Acton. As such, navigating Acton Town requires a certain level of flexibility on the part of commuters.

East Acton, however, is much harder to justify as it is significantly closer to White City.
