Seven offers and announcements Manchester United could make on July 1

Manchester United enter July with an exciting month ahead, with the 2024 pre-season set to begin in a week’s time.

Manager Erik ten Hag was retained after winning the FA Cup but is under pressure to deliver an improved 2023/24 Premier League season.

No signings have been made yet, but we are just two weeks away from the first pre-season game.

But once June 30 has passed, the likes of Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane have now been released, freeing up wage space.

July 1 has been an active day in the past for United and there are a few announcements we can expect and see some clarity.

New kit announcement

This is blocked. Footy Headlines report that Manchester United’s 2024/25 home kit will be announced on July 1.

The kit will be Manchester United’s first kit with new sponsor Snapdragon. The kit will be manufactured by Adidas and a preview can be seen below.

The Erik ten Hag contract

Manchester United are negotiating a new contract extension with manager Erik ten Hag. Talks over a new deal have been ongoing for the past two weeks.

United will want to see this done quickly and announcing a deal would be a positive statement of intent. Let’s fix it before the players come back for pre-season.

Mixed in with this could include the Ten Hag’s new assistants, with Ruud van Nistelrooy and Rene Hake set to join, with Benni McCarthy departing.

Jonny Evans contract

From July 1, Jonny Evans will be a free agent. United have held talks with the Northern Ireland defender over a new deal.

Athletic reported that there is “optimism” at Old Trafford that Evans will sign a new deal, continuing to provide valuable support in central defence.

The contract with Tom Heaton

Like Jonny Evans, goalkeeper Tom Heaton will be out of contract on July 1. United are also still in talks with him over a new deal.

United could move to clear up both players’ situations by announcing extensions as soon as possible if a deal is struck.

Shola Shoretire future

Talented game creator Shola Shoretire is no longer under contract. When announcing the club’s retained list last month, United said they were continuing talks with the 20-year-old.

Shoretire became one of Manchester United’s youngest ever players under former boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but has not had a look under Erik ten Hag.

Expect some clarity to be provided, with him suggesting via the Manchester World last week that Shoretire will not agree to the terms of a new deal and will leave Manchester United.

Joshua Zirkzee’s release clause

Manchester United have been closely monitoring Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee and Sky Sports have reported that the club will have to pay his release clause.

Zirkzee’s release clause becomes active on July 1st. Other clubs are also looking at the striker and United can show how serious they are about him by striking early.

There will still be work to do to win the race for the striker, but by triggering the clause, the matter of paying the £34m fee to Bologna will be completed in one step.

Exit Sofyan Amrabat

Manchester United have yet to confirm what will happen to FA Cup hero Sofyan Amrabat, whose loan deal expired on June 30.

This time last year, United announced that loanees Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst would not be kept. Expect the same with Amrabat.

United have an option to buy Amrabat which had to be exercised before June 30. In his absence, clearly expect him to return to Fiorentina.
