Gold: Ipswich make ‘verbal offer’ for Joe Rodon, Leeds and Leicester still interested

Almost a month of the summer transfer window has passed with very little news to get excited about if you’re a Tottenham Hotspur fan. But today, “PSR Term Day” brought some pretty exciting news! Today, we brought you a spicy rumor from David Ornstein that Tottenham were in talks with Leeds United for the transfer of teenage midfielder/defender Archie Gray after possibly diverting Brentford’s bid for the player.

And now this from Alasdair Gold – according to Football.London journalist, newly promoted Premier League side Ipswich Town have reportedly made a “verbal offer” to sign Spurs centre-back Joe Rodon.

Rodon, of course, spent the season on loan at Leeds, where he was a key player for one of the Championship’s best sides… and that didn’t quite get him promoted to the Premier League. It’s interesting that two of the three promoted sides are showing an interest in signing Rodon — he’s clearly a good enough player for a team at the bottom of the Premier League, but he’s out of Ange Postecoglou’s plans and I don’t see a situation in which will remain for one more season. .

And frankly, having three teams interested in Rodon is good for the Spurs. Interest from Ipswich and Leicester probably means Leeds are less likely to get him (Premier League >> Championship) but the competition could drive up the transfer fee. That would be fine with me.

For what it’s worth, the deal DOESN’T close today either. There are now suggestions that the paperwork filed today may be finalized in the next couple of days and still be considered part of the 2023-24 fiscal year for PSR purchases, so I’m not sure we’ll hear about the BOMB late. in the market. That said, we’d better get Rodon — and others who aren’t expected to appear for the Spurs next season — out as soon as possible.
