Second teenager arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after ‘horrific’ stabbing of elderly man

A second teenager has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after an elderly man was stabbed in Wigan. Police were called to reports of a stabbing in Edge Hall Road, Orrell, at around 4pm last Thursday (June 27).

The victim, over 70 years old, was rushed to the hospital from the scene, where he remains with serious injuries. He is receiving specialist treatment.




Greater Manchester Police initially arrested an 18-year-old man the following day, Friday (June 28), on suspicion of attempted murder. He currently remains in custody.

Following additional investigations, the police have since arrested a second suspect, a 19-year-old man, on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody to be questioned by detectives.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Bell from GMP’s Wigan district said: “Since this incident took place we have used our resources to ensure we can find key people we believe are responsible for this horrific act.

“We hope our progress so far provides some reassurance to our local community that we are treating this with the seriousness it deserves and we would once again like to thank members of the public for helping us with our enquiries.”
