Gordon NEGOTIATIONS, Kvaratskhelia BOOST, Calafiori FIGHT

With the PSR deadline on Sunday night, the transfer action in the Premier League has really come alive.

Although Liverpool have no financial fair play concerns, their interest in Anthony Gordon has threatened to engulf them in a transfer carousel.

Meanwhile, the Reds have been given a boost in their pursuit of another wide forward as they face competition for a top defender.

Here’s the round-up of Liverpool FC transfer news for Monday 1 July, when a number of player contracts come to an end.

Anthony Gordon move ‘unlikely’

Despite talks between the two clubs, Liverpool have failed to complete a move for Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United after refusing to include talented youngster Jarell Quansah in any deal.

Sunday started off as a big day for transfers in England, with Liverpool hinting that they are heavily involved as certain clubs desperately try to meet the Premier League’s spending rules.

Chelsea, Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle United can all break the rules and have to sell players to meet them.

The Daily Mail reported on Saturday that there had been contact from the Magpies offering Anthony Gordon to the Reds, potentially setting up a dramatic ‘deadline’ day.

However, with Quansah off the table, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Liverpool were not expected to meet Newcastle’s demands unless they made a “crazy” offer.

Newcastle are still lining up Gordon’s replacement

That said, Newcastle have reportedly opened talks over a deal for Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest.

Given Anthony Gordon’s links to Liverpool, it has been suggested that Newcastle have already identified the perfect replacement should the 23-year-old make a sensational return to Merseyside.

Perhaps the door to a move to Anfield is still open after all.

The Reds got a boost Kvaratskhelia

Liverpool have been given a significant boost in their pursuit of Napoli star Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who has reportedly turned down a bid from Paris Saint-Germain in favor of a potential move to the Premier League.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the 23-year-old Georgian winger, who is currently impressing at Euro 2024, turned down a £110m approach from the French giants as he would like to try his luck in England.

Thiago and Matip officially leave

June 30 is a very important date in the football calendar, a number of players leaving clubs following the expiry of their contracts.

For Liverpool, of course, that meant the official departures of Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip, with Adrian set to follow.
