Girls Aloud stopped their last show to send a special message to Cheryl after she “clarified” a video that has been circulating about her online.

On the last leg of their tour, Cheryl, Nadine, Nicola and Kimberley opened the show after subtly referencing bandmate Sarah with her favorite song Waka Waka by Shakira, which the band used to listen to together while preparing for their performances.

The night was suitably charged with tributes to Sarah Harding, who passed away after a battle with breast cancer in 2021. After opening the show with Untouchable against a backdrop of poignant photos of their late bandmate and then resuming beat with The Show, Cheryl stopped the concert to set the record straight about a certain video that has been circulating about her online.

After holding up a poster with a cheeky message from one of the lucky fans in the pit front, Cheryl told the excited crowd: ‘I’d just like to clear something up, you may have seen a video floating around . around me saying I’ll never sing Love Machine in my 30s. The crowd then erupted into cheers as the girl band continued to perform the upbeat song, followed by I Can’t Speak French, after which Nicola addressed her hometown and said what an “honour it is to spend the last night of the tour with Scousers.

“I’ve been waiting this whole tour to finally come back to this city.”

In what the girls described as an “emotional rollercoaster” of an evening, they performed A Whole Lot of History and said they “couldn’t have known then what a journey they would be on as five girls and now as four , disappeared. and we love our dear Sarah.”

There wasn’t a dry eye in the M&S Bank arena on Sunday night as a compilation of images and videos of Sarah was played as the band tearfully belted out the song.

After playing Wake Me Up, which saw the band fly through the audience on motorbikes, the arena went wild for perhaps their most iconic track, which catapulted them to fame after Popstars: The Rivals, which was Sound of the Underground.

There were some lesser known songs on the set list including Girl Overboard, On The Metro and Graffiti my Soul, but it wasn’t long before fans were captivated again when Nadine, Nicola and Kimberley stopped the show to say something special. to Cheryl.

After announcing earlier that they would in fact be performing on her 41st birthday, the band broke into a happy birthday chorus for the Fight For This Love singer, which the crowd were only too happy to join in with.

“Sing beautifully Liverpool, great Scousers,” said Nadine before the performance took a poignant turn in another touching and heartbreaking tribute to Sarah.

While rehearsing for their tour, the girls told the crowd they came across a very special sound, which was Sarah Harding singing Stand By You by herself, which the band “then had the privilege” to sing along to.

It was a truly heartbreaking moment as the crowd became a sea of ​​bright lights as people flashed their phone torches and swayed as they watched a video of the late and handsome 39-year-old on stage screens.

Her bandmates’ pain was also all too clear to see as Nadine in particular struggled to get through the song, breaking down in tears throughout the emotional performance.

But it was the love of their fans that got them through the next few tracks with a spectacular performance from Sexy! No, no, no, Jump and Something Kind of Ooooh, which led perfectly into the finale of The Promise shows. During the performance of the song, moving snippets of Sarah singing were heard, before a message “In loving memory of Sarah Harding 17.11.81 – 05.09.21” appeared on the screen.

And the show will be just that, a loving memory that fans won’t forget, with Cheryl saying “thank you, we love you” to end what will most likely be their last tour.
