Shocking CCTV shows a stabbed Deliveroo rider fighting off a knifeman

This is the moment a Deliveroo rider desperately fought back a teenage robber who stabbed him in the stomach as he tried to steal his bike in north London.

Lewis Livingstone attacked the victim, then 28, as she walked home on Fore Street, Enfield, in broad daylight.

The 19-year-old, who was sitting at a bus stop, jumped on the rider and kicked him, forcing him off his bike.

He then unsheathed a large knife and chased the victim away before getting on his bike and again held the knife at the victim when he tried to stop her at around 4.30pm on July 1 last year.

The rider, wearing a distinctive Deliveroo thermal backpack, approached Livingstone to prevent his bike being stolen.

As they writhed on the ground, Livingstone took his knife and stabbed the victim in the abdomen in front of dozens of horrified onlookers.

The man screamed for help and suffered more knife wounds to his hands as he desperately tried to defend himself.

Members of the public bravely intervened to stop Livingstone and he was detained while police rushed to the scene and arrested him minutes later.

When asked why he did it, one witness said Livingstone simply replied, “Is he dead?”

In a victim impact statement, the rider said: “I think this man would have killed me if people hadn’t come to my rescue.

“I’m still not over the shock and fear. I spent the night in the hospital having nightmares. I still have a lot of pain in my side and hands from being stabbed. Now I’m in line, waiting for surgery on my hands.”

The victim received first aid at the scene before being taken to hospital, where thankfully his injuries were not deemed life-threatening or life-changing.

Metropolitan Police officers worked quickly to charge Livingstone within 24 hours. He was remanded in custody.

Livingstone tried to claim he was acting in self-defence, but this was easily disproved by detectives.

Along with CCTV, they gathered a lot of witness statements and carried out forensic work to prove his guilt.

Livingstone, of Wellington Road, Enfield, was jailed for six-and-a-half years at Wood Green Crown Court, sitting at Hendon Magistrates’ Court, on Friday after pleading guilty at an earlier hearing to attempted robbery and possession of an article with blade.

He was also given a suspended sentence for a previous offense for which he will now have to serve 18 months, bringing the total to eight years in prison.

Detective Constable James Hunt said: “The victim continues to suffer from the physical and psychological impact of this incident. He was spending the day, just buying something to eat, when he was pushed into a terrible ordeal.

“I know he is incredibly grateful to the people who came to his aid. If not for their courage, this incident could have been much worse.

“It is a good example of the community stepping up and working together with the police following a serious crime. Those valuable witnesses, combined with other investigative work, were key in helping us quickly get Livingstone indicted and taken into custody.”
