The learner driver left to walk home after the Vauxhall Vectra was impounded in Coventry

A learner driver was allowed to walk home after police seized a Vauxhall Vectra on the Coventry border. Members of Warwickshire Police’s Operational Patrol Unit (OPU) swooped on the car and unearthed a number of offences.

Officers discovered the driver had no insurance and only had a provisional license. Further checks revealed they already had eight points for a previous offense of driving without insurance and without a licence.

The police seized the car and reported the driver, who has not been identified, to court. The team also stopped a Renault Clio on the A429 near Sherbourne.

Officers found the driver had no insurance and the MoT expired in January. The driver was also found in possession of cannabis and failed a roadside drug test.

The team arrested the driver, who was then detained and the car was impounded.
