Jay Slater: Ex-cop suspect says teen’s disappearance ‘doesn’t add up’

Drones, dogs and search teams from around the globe have converged on the Spanish island of Tenerife to search for missing 19-year-old Jay Slater, to no avail. His parents are said to be “devastated” that the search has been called off, but an expert is suspicious and says the elements of the story “don’t add up”.

Graham Wettone, who has been a member of the Met for 30 years, says the disappearance of apprentice bricklayer Jay, who has been missing since June 17, may need “another look”. Whettone says local law enforcement must question whether a third party was involved and pursue “criminal” lines of reasoning.

Speaking to MailOnline, Graham said: ‘It seems to me they are only focusing on the mountain, but I would hope they are looking at other avenues and that includes crime. I have followed this case closely. and talking about it with colleagues, and it’s definitely a very bizarre one, a lot of things just don’t add up.”

The search for Jay was called off on Sunday, June 30, according to Tenerife police. A source close to Jay’s family says they are heartbroken that the decision has been made to call off the search and believes it is because “the trolls have won”.

A UK family source told The Sun: “Jay’s family can’t help but think the trolls have won and they’ve got their way. So many people sent horrible messages which only added to the family’s anguish.

“They won’t stop looking for Jay or give up. They will stay in Tenerife and try to do everything they can to keep the momentum going and find Jay. They tried to get in touch with groups in Tenerife and beyond. Specializing in missing persons, Jay’s family knew it would eventually end.
