22-year-old man stabbed to death in Croydon pictured for first time

A 22-year-old man who was stabbed to death in south London has been named by police.

Rijkaard Salu Siafa was pronounced dead at the scene in Fellmongers Yard, Croydon, after officers were called just after 6pm on Friday.

A man was arrested and remains in custody.

Met officers, paramedics and the London Air Ambulance all attended the scene. Photos showed a huge emergency response, including at least six police cars.

The crime scene took place on Friday evening, and the police were conducting urgent investigations in the area.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Lee, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, which is leading the investigation, said: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to Rijkaard’s family and friends as they come to terms with his death following this shocking incident. This loss has left an irreparable hole in their family and I would ask that their privacy be respected at this difficult time.

“I would also like to thank those members of the public who rushed to Rijkaard’s aid immediately afterwards.

“If you have seen the events unfolding but have not yet contacted the police then I would urge you to do so immediately.

“Local residents will continue to see an increased police presence in the Fellmongers Yard area – if you have any concerns please speak to one of them.”

Superintendent Mitch Carr, who leads community policing in Croydon, said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with the family and friends of Rijkaard, who lost his life in tragic circumstances.

“Local teams in Croydon will be working to ensure a visible police presence in the town center to provide peace of mind for the community. Please speak to the officers about any concerns you may have.

“I would also like to extend my thanks to the community for their assistance and cooperation with the officers who responded to this extremely challenging incident.”
