Second arrest after 70-year-old man stabbed in Wigan

It happened in the Orrell area on Thursday

Police investigating the stabbing of a 70-year-old man in Wigan say they have arrested a second person.

Officers rushed to Edge Hall Road in Orrell on Thursday afternoon after receiving reports that a man had been attacked.

Following the investigations, a 19-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

It follows that an 18-year-old man was arrested on Friday.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Bell from our Wigan district said: “Since this incident took place we have used our resources to ensure we can find key people who we believe are responsible for this horrific act.

“We hope our progress so far provides some reassurance to our local community that we are treating this with the seriousness it deserves and we would once again like to thank members of the public for helping us with our enquiries.”

The victim is still being treated at the hospital.
