Jet2 in urgent warning to Mediterranean and Balearic passengers about delays

Popular airline Jet2 has issued a warning to passengers after serious storms hit some key holiday destinations. Some of its main Mediterranean routes are currently experiencing delays and disruptions due to violent storms.

These include routes to the Eastern Mediterranean and the Balearic Islands, such as Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, with more storms predicted. The airline anticipates the disruption could last until Wednesday, July 3.

Passengers were warned to take extra precautions, including allowing extra travel time to the airport and planning for potentially difficult driving conditions. Late on Sunday, Jet2 provided an update: “We are currently experiencing some air traffic control slot delays on flights due to arrive, depart or fly into the Eastern Mediterranean and Balearic Islands, this is due to weather conditions unfavorable (thunderstorms). ) in many parts of Eastern Europe”.

“If you are currently on holiday and experiencing bad weather, please allow plenty of time to get to the airport and be aware of potential bad conditions en route. Our UK operations team is working hard to minimize disruption to our flight schedule, however, you may experience some disruption if you are traveling to/from the affected areas.” reports the Mirror.

The airline advised passengers to check their website for up-to-date flight details before departing and confirmed there are currently no cancellations. The firm said: “All Jet2.com flights are operational. Where possible, we will board flights as close to the time as possible, this will allow us to make a departure as soon as we receive clearance from Air Traffic Control. We apologize in advance if this causes an extended wait on board before departure. Our friendly team and crew will keep you updated.”

They added: “For updates, please ensure your contact details are up to date via ‘Manage My Booking’ as all updates will not only be displayed on this page of the Jet2.com website but we will send via SMS and email to affected customers using your booking details. You can update your contact details at any time and in the app or on our website. We will continue to monitor this situation and look forward to welcoming you on board.

Violent storms frequently hit the area – just last month, the Balearic Islands were hit by a staggering 826 lightning strikes in a 24-hour period, accompanied by hail up to 2cm in diameter. Recent extreme weather events have caused considerable disruption in various locations, including Mallorca, where on 11 June over 9cm of rain fell in less than an hour.

The resulting flooding led to the temporary grounding of flights at the island’s Palma airport, while images circulated on social media showed rainwater flooding the airport’s duty-free shop.
