Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s Leicester City exit ‘complete’ after Chelsea medical and contract update

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s transfer from Leicester City to Chelsea is now “complete”.

That’s the word from Fabrizio Romano, who recently stated that the midfielder’s new deal at Stamford Bridge is in place and his medical has been completed. Therefore, all that is yet to arrive is the official confirmation from the two clubs.

Dewsbury-Hall’s transfer was one that City could have seen coming as the club returned to the Premier League as his outstanding performances boosted promotion hopes. The departure of manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea was the penultimate domino to fall, now the Italian has finally returned to Leicester to pry the 25-year-old away.

It seems his hand may have been forced as Brighton were actually the first club to come in and reach an agreement. The Seagulls were to hand over cash plus Jakub Moder, but the deal collapsed in the final stages once Dewsbury-Hall learned of Maresca’s late move.

The Foxes want to pocket £30m from the deal – one that was not entirely in their hands as a push to comply with Profit and Sustainability (PSR) rules drove the club’s affairs earlier in the summer. Although PSR’s deadline for the 2023/2024 campaign has passed, this deal can still be backdated to that accounting period as the deal was completed on Sunday, which is not a business day.

Also, this settlement of an outright purchase comes after many Chelsea players have been rumored for a cash-plus-player swap deal. Instead, youth talent Michael Golding is set to sign for Steve Cooper’s side in a separate £5million deal.
