UPDATE: Rodon is likely to head to Leeds in exchange for Gray

good good good

Archie Gray’s move to Tottenham Hotspur looks almost like it’s only a matter of time (no, I’m not moving), with Spurs and Leeds currently in talks to complete a deal to allow the Whites to avoid PSR sanctions. The other piece of movement going on in the transfer window for Spurs right now is the potential departure of Joe Rodon, with three clubs vying for the Welshman’s signature, as described by Dustin yesterday.

Well, how about killing two birds with one stone?

According to Alasdair Gold, Ipswich Town’s advances have reportedly been rebuffed, with Spurs instead opting to include Rodon in a part-exchange for Gray. Dan Kilpatrick of the Evening Standard argued this, and from Leeds’ perspective it makes sense: they’re getting the profit they need to avoid the FA coming after them to break their kneecaps with what are probably cricket bats in England, all while signing. a player who was key to many of their positives last season in a manner that probably doesn’t trouble the accountants’ books too much.

The often forgotten cog in this wheel of madness is the player, with Gold also noting that Rodon is pleased with the move. We read early on that Rodon was unlikely to settle for a side playing Championship football, but from what Gold has said, the centre-back has thoroughly enjoyed his time at the West Yorkshire club.

This makes it even simpler for Leeds, and the signing of Gray more attractive for Spurs, with a small outlay for a player with a lot of potential, resulting in a smaller bet. Expect this one to move quickly: Even as I write this, other reports are coming out that say Gray has agreed to personal terms and has already completed some of his medical paperwork.

See.
