Fally Mayulu makes Bristol City promise, becoming the Robins’ first summer addition

New Bristol City striker Fally Mayulu has vowed to “give it my all” to the Robins after completing his £2.5m switch from Rapid Vienna, subject to international clearance.

Mayulu has signed a four-year deal at Ashton Gate and becomes the club’s first addition to what is shaping up to be an exciting transfer window for City ahead of the 2024/25 Championship season.

The 21-year-old leaves Austria’s biggest club Rapid after just one season in which he found the target 11 times and added three assists in 35 appearances, having previously played for BW Linz in the second stage.

Mayulu was previously at the Lens and Wolfsburg academies and had a trial at Paris Saint-Germain as a teenager, where his younger brother Senny plays.

A tall, quick and skilful forward, Mayulu is expected to meet his new team-mates at the High Performance Center this week before joining the rest of the squad in their training camp in Portugal, which starts at the end of the week.

Mayulu at least allowed himself to familiarize himself with his new surroundings over the weekend after flying to Bristol on Friday for a medical at HPC.

“It feels really good. I’ve been waiting for this moment and it’s a good achievement for me, so I’m very happy,” said Mayulu, who gave her interview in English. “I know this is a good club with a good history and I’ve also heard good things about the city and the fans. I think this is the right place to be.

“I just want to give everything for the club. I want to give back to the fans and the team. I’ll give it my all and we’ll see.

“It was very fast last week, but now I’m here, so let’s get started. I always like English football, it’s tough football, I like to run a lot, so I think it will be good for me and I can’t wait. to start the games.

“I’m a simple person, I’m very kind to everyone. I like life. As a footballer, I like to talk tough, run, jump and obviously I like to score.”

City are understood to have agreed a package of up to £2.5m with Rapid, with interest in Mayulu growing from across Europe. Although he is a tall forward, his attributes fall far short of the conception of such a forward, with the Frenchman possessing outstanding pace and acceleration, as well as his awareness of others when the ball is at his feet.

He will be something of a “project player” as he adapts to a new city, country, way of life and the demands of the Championship, but he brings something extra to a Robins attack which, head coach Liam Manning admits, looked in -truth. one-dimensional at times in the final quarter due to the likes of Tommy Conway and Nahki Wells as his only real options.

“Fally is a player we have been following for some time and one we are delighted to be able to bring to the club,” said technical director Brian Tinnion. “He is the exact profile of the player we were looking for. for and we are excited to see him develop with us.”
