Student fury flipping flies as summer exodus begins

The riot broke out after students left piles of waste in various cities across the UK as they vacated their homes for the summer. Images reveal overflowing bins and piles of rubbish including sofas, laptops and even bongs littering the streets of Manchester and Leeds.

But is the situation better in Leicester and Loughborough? If you live in Leicestershire and your street has been affected by the small proportion of students littering when leaving properties, please let us know by emailing [email protected] or messaging our Facebook page, including pictures .

Every year, the flight tip becomes especially prevalent around July 1st, marking the date when most student housing leases end.

Often living in rental properties for only a year, many students decide to discard unwanted items before they leave.

Elderly residents of Fallowfield, Manchester, where more than 50% of the population are students, have expressed their frustration that rubbish dumps have “destroyed” the area and driven down property prices.

Nino Guglielmi, 83, a local hair salon owner for the past 60 years, noted that the streets near his home turn into “dumps” every year. Looking at the litter in a lane off Furness Road, he expressed his exasperation: “Students went out this weekend and threw all the rubbish everywhere. It’s absolutely ridiculous.”

He continued: “They threw couches, they threw sofas, they threw duvets, they threw laptops, you name it. They threw everything away and then left.”

He added: “It’s destroying the neighbourhood. Nobody wants to buy the properties here if you want to sell them because it’s full of rubbish.”
