Brent Maze: Fireworks galore here in Dallas County

Things I always look forward to during the Independence Day celebration include the cookout and the fireworks display.

Maybe that’s why Will Smith’s classic movie was so popular. No matter how bad the plot was, all we wanted to see was Smith and company blowing up the alien ships, giving fans plenty of great cinematic fireworks displays.

I don’t know, but there’s just something about seeing all the gunpowder exploding in the sky that makes it feel festive. Even when I had to spend the day in hospital, my family came and watched the show with me from the window at the end of the hall above the Birmingham skyline. (Actually, this was the only time I watched the fireworks from the south side of Red Mountain.)

By the way, they also brought me some ribs, so I did a bit of a cookout too.

Here in Dallas County, there should be a lot of fireworks around here. We have two shows coming up on Wednesday night, the day before Independence Day. Valley Grande has fireworks that night. Here in the Queen City, fireworks will go off after the concert at the Amphitheater.

The next day, Orrville will have the fireworks show.

There’s no telling how much smoke we’ll create over these two nights, but it’s truly a great tradition that I’ll embrace every time.

If that’s not enough, I guess you can set your DVRs to record the fireworks shows from the main hubs in the city.

What I always like to look for is to see if there are new patterns or colors coming out of fireworks. I remember when the smiley faces and heart fireworks debuted and people were amazed.

To me, a fireworks display doesn’t have to be extremely long to be great. All he has to do is keep my attention until the end. Usually more fireworks go off in that minute or two than in the rest of the show.

Most shows end with either a ton of big bang fireworks that just cause a lot of noise but little light. Others will end with large fireworks that appear to paint the sky in glitter for a few seconds.

Personally, I like a combination of the two finishes where it’s shiny and has a bit of a bang.

So far in Dallas County, I have already been impressed with the events and activity that is already happening here. I want to do my best to attend as much as I can, and I know I’ll be catching at least a fireworks show or two next week.

I hope you will take the opportunity to attend these events as well.
