Sheffield United are saying goodbye to the trio as the 24-year-old completes his medical

It was a hectic first day of July for Sheffield United. The (few) players the Blades signed are back in training. Meanwhile, several faces left the club after their contracts ended.

Daniel Jebbison rejects long-term deal with Sheffield United

Sky Sports reported last night that promising striker Daniel Jebbison has rejected a new long-term deal with United due to ongoing takeover talks. The England youth international has previously been linked with Everton and Leeds United. If Jebbison signs for an English club then Sheffield United will be entitled to compensation.

Under the rules and regulations of both the Premier League and the English Football League (EFL), a club that signs an out-of-contract player under the age of 24 is required to pay compensation to the former club for the training and development of the player. .

If the two clubs can’t agree on the compensation fee, the deal will go to a tribunal, which will assess Jebbison’s fair market value. United could also receive a percentage of the sale if the Canadian-born forward moves on in the future, according to The Star.

John Egan is leaving Sheffield United

John Egan has officially left the club. The 31-year-old Ireland and former Blades captain released a farewell message on social media after an eventful six years at Bramall Lane.

In the previous five league campaigns for United, before the last Premier League term, the experienced defender played in 94% of the team’s league games, highlighting how reliable he is. It’s even more impressive for a defender to have this record because it shows his footballing intelligence to avoid suspensions.

His consistent presence on the court was crucial, making his absence this season all the more noticeable. And that absence will be felt ahead of pre-season, with the Blades lacking any form of leadership in the dressing room.

With Egan’s departure, along with Chris Basham, George Baldock and Oliver Norwood, it means there are no players at the club who were part of the 2018/19 promotion campaign.

Keith Andrews is leaving United’s coaching staff

It was previously reported that Thomas Frank wanted to bring Keith Andrews to Brentford’s staff and now the move has been confirmed.

Andrews, 43, was welcomed to Sheffield United as part of Chris Wilder’s staff when the Blades boss reunited with the club in December. Now the former Republic of Ireland player and manager has joined the Bees as their new market coach.

Jamie Shackleton medically fills in for Blades

On a more positive note, Football Insider claim that former Leeds United midfielder Jamie Shackleton has completed his medical at Sheffield United. The 24-year-old was offered a new deal at Leeds but turned down the deal to join Chris Wilder’s Blades.

As mentioned in a previous article, Shackleton is capable of covering multiple positions and therefore could be the replacement for the recently departed Ben Osborn, who was considered the team’s utility player.
