Miedema Close to Manchester City Women Move

Vivianne Miedema is close to signing for Manchester City Women ahead of the new WSL season, according to Sky Sports. The Netherlands international, who left Arsenal at the end of last season, is available on a free transfer and would be manager Gareth Taylor’s first signing of the summer.

It is understood that a number of clubs were considering signing the Dutch striker, but City appear to have won the race, with Miedema apparently keen to continue in England. Signed by Arsenal seven years ago from Bayern Munich, Miedema won the WSL in 2019 and three League Cups in 2018, 2023 and 2024. However, she spent most of last season on the sidelines after who tore his ACL in 2022.

The signing of the Dutch star will be a major coup for Taylor and City fans will no doubt be looking forward to seeing Miedema play alongside Bunny Shaw next season. It is no coincidence that City have faded in the last two games and lost their killer touch in front of goal after Shaw’s injury against West Ham, and Miedema could be the signing that helps City win the WSL title next season.

And City could also be ready to make their second signing of the summer as Risa Shimizu has agreed to join the Blues. The 28-year-old Japan international’s contract at West Ham expired at the end of last season and Taylor appears to have moved quickly to secure his signature.

Right back, Shimizu is seen as the perfect replacement for Esme Morgan, who moved to the Washington Spirit this summer. Shimizu made 54 appearances for the Hammers over two seasons, scoring just once in a 4–3 defeat to Spurs.
