Nuneaton supporters go ‘help us’ as they start new football club after ‘Boro’s collapse’.

A crowdfunder has been launched to help Nuneaton supporters restart the town’s football club for the first time since 1889. They say they desperately need to raise funds to help cover start-up costs in off the pitch for Nuneaton Town FC’s first season.

Made up of supporters and sponsors, the new club replaces the old Nuneaton Borough FC, which collapsed at the end of last year. The new club is a community interest company and part-owned by supporters through Nuneaton Borough Supporters Co-operative.

They say they hope to raise £6,000 to help with costs as the new club prepares for its first season in the Midland Football League Division One next month. For the first two seasons, the team will play at The Oval, the home of Bedworth United FC.

But they say they ultimately want to find a permanent home in Nuneaton. Meanwhile, the new team under first-time managers Darren Acton and Russell Dodd are preparing for their debut season and the club say they need help.

“Setting up a new club involves a lot of initial costs off the pitch: equipment, physiotherapy equipment, training venue hire, legal fees, hospitality, insurance, FA and League affiliation and much more,” said a spokesman .

“Without our own ground, we lose the revenue usually generated by home games. Also, as a community-focused club, we want the supporters and the wider community to be at the heart of everything we do and play a significant role in the development of the club.”
