The expert just explains when you should mow your lawn in the summer or risk dry, brown grass

The UK has enjoyed a heatwave, with temperatures soaring to 28 degrees Celsius in some areas earlier this week. While the sunny weather may inspire many to take care of the garden, one expert has warned against mowing the lawn during such hot spells.

Carlos Real, lawn care specialist and CEO of TotalLawn, advised that homeowners should only mow their grass during heat waves if they are prepared to water it constantly.

He explained: “If you water regularly, then you should continue to mow every two or three days, but if you can’t commit to watering your lawn regularly, it’s best to avoid mowing as well.”

This is because the heat puts extra stress on the lawn and mowing will make this worse as the grass tries to recover.

If grass blades cannot receive enough water, they will begin to dry out and die, reports the Express.

All types of grass can struggle in hot weather without sufficient hydration, but turf is particularly prone to drying out.

Mr Real explained further: “It is important to water the lawn heavily over the next few days as the temperatures rise. Ideally you should water it early in the morning before the main heat of the day”.

“When you water, think of it as softening the soil rather than watering the blades of grass,” he added.
