Four rushed to hospital after fairground ride ‘collapsed’ as onlookers tell of horror

Four people have been hospitalized after a fairground ride is said to have “collapsed”. Emergency services were called to an incident in Brockwell Park, south London, at around 6.20pm this evening.

Police said no one was caught in the race, which is part of the Lambeth Country Show, My London reported. The conditions of the four people who were rushed to the hospital are not yet known. Inquiries are being carried out to establish what happened and cordons remain in place this evening.

The Health and Safety Executive will be informed. Locals took to social media after the incident.

One said: “Fairfair ride apparently crashed in Brockwell Park.” Another added: “We were next in line for the ride and it collapsed in front of us. It was awful and we feel bad for those affected.”

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “Emergency services responded at around 6.20pm on Saturday to a failed fairground race at Lambeth Country Show in Brockwell Park. Four people were transported to the hospital. We are awaiting an assessment of their condition. No one is caught in the race.

“Inquiries are underway to establish the circumstances. Curfews are in place at the venue. The Health and Safety Executive will be informed.”
