ISG earns £44m for IKEA store conversion in Coventry

The firm is understood to have secured the deal with a £44m bid for the repurposing work on the vast store on Croft Way.

Designed by architect Buttress, The City Center Cultural Gateway provides a new home for the nationally recognized collections managed by Arts Council England, the Arts Council Collection and the British Council.

Other floors will be occupied as a cultural center for Coventry University, housing a student gallery, cafe, library and dance studio, conference area, artist studios and post-production filming facilities.

Salford’s Environmental Services Design is the M&E consultant with Manchester civil engineers involved in the design of the structure.

The freestanding building spans approximately 26,000m2 of prime city center space over seven floors with significant on-site parking.

The project will be delivered in three phases.

  • Phase 1 – involves the conversion of floors into bespoke facilities for the storage, care and management of nationally significant art, cultural and heritage collections.
  • Phase 2 – the Cultural Center phase is proposed by Coventry University to provide a range of opportunities for cultural education, engagement, training and professional development.
  • Phase 3 – constitutes ‘shell and core’ works to the remaining floors which will enable future letting to investor occupiers.

A bold new facade design is proposed to establish a new identity for the building
