QPR have set their sights on Bayern Munich youngster Liam Morrison

QPR are keen on Bayern Munich centre-back Liam Morrison after his loan move to Wigan Athletic, according to West London Sport.

QPR are looking for new recruits as Marti Cifuentes embarks on his first transfer of the summer in charge of the West London outfit.

Having dragged the Ri to safety last season, there is excitement about what they can achieve in a full season with the Spaniard at the helm. A fruitful summer window is needed before they can make real strides on the table.

The window has been open for just over two weeks, but with July well under way, the move is bound to intensify.

Now, a new name has appeared on QPR’s radar.

A report from West London Sport said the Championship club are keen on a deal for Liam Morrison, who is currently on the books at Bayern Munich. He comes after making 35 appearances on loan for Wigan Athletic last season.

The 21-year-old Scot has one year left on his contract with the Bundesliga club, so a move this summer could suit all parties.

Who is this?

THE QUIZ STARTS!

The time of Morrison Latics

Morrison made a big impression during his time with Wigan Athletic last season. He has proven his skills at a highly competitive level in League One and after performing well there, the Championship could be a big step for him.

The 21-year-old has struggled for a place in the starting XI at times, with some brief spells limiting his action at times. However, he was a great player for the well-available Shaun Maloney, providing an assured presence on the ball at the back of the Latics.

His strong displays in League One could have him well equipped for a jump to Championship football.

For someone like QPR, Morrison could be a smart signing, either on a permanent or temporary basis. The former suits Bayern well given his contract situation, but the key is that he continues to play regularly at senior level, with youth football very much in mind.

Current centre-back options

The heart of the defense is an area QPR will need to strengthen this summer.

Jake Clarke-Salter and Steve Cook have been a fantastic partnership at the heart of Cifuentes’ foundation and will hopefully continue alongside each other going forward. Beyond those two, though, depth is at a premium.

Jimmy Dunne, who found a regular place at right-back last season, remains an option at centre-back. Reggie Cannon also played there, though that was mainly behind the three.

It means Morrison probably won’t be the only centre-back on QPR’s radar this summer. Hopefully they can follow Paul Nardi and Daniel Bennie out the door sooner rather than later.
