Blast in Sheffield as bomb squad detonates ‘historic device’

A bomb squad was forced to carry out a controlled explosion in Sheffield.

The historic explosive device was discovered in the River Don near Ball Street yesterday (Sunday June 30). It was then transported to a safe location by Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts.

A cordon was installed during the controlled explosion. South Yorkshire Police thanked the public for their cooperation during the operation.

A spokesman for the force said: “Bomb disposal experts from Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) carried out a controlled explosion in the Parkwood Springs area of ​​Sheffield this evening following the discovery of a historic explosive device.

“We were called to Ball Street earlier today (June 30) following reports that a suspected explosive device had been found in the River Don. EOD also attended the scene before transporting the device to a safe location and conducting a controlled explosion with a cordon set up for the safety of the public.

“This cordon has now been lifted and we would like to thank the public for their cooperation and understanding.”
