The Huddersfield Town Center team said more operations are in the works at the bus station following the latest high-visibility operation there to tackle anti-social behavior and crime.

Officers deployed with a drug dog late last week and stopped and searched 17 people during the operation.

Seven drug and four alcohol seizures were made and one man was arrested for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

One person was also reported for court summons and three others were given community orders.

The initiative was the latest in a series of activities by the city center team to reduce ASB and other crime at the bus station following recent public concern about problems there.

In recent weeks, officers have carried out plainclothes patrols at the station to catch criminals and carried out numerous high-visibility operations. Both resulted in arrests, drug and gun seizures.

The bus station also has a dedicated PCSO who attends several times during the week.

Sergeant Graham Watson of Huddersfield Town Center Proactive Team, said: “This latest operation was just one element of a significant amount of work underway to make it clear that ASB will not be tolerated at the bus station.

“We know the distress issues have caused commuters and as a result have strengthened our presence.

“Plaincloth and high visibility officers now regularly seize drugs and alcohol and make arrests for offenses including drug and weapons possession and drunken and disorderly behaviour. We intend to continue these operations throughout 2024.”

“Besides,” he added. “Thanks to funding from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, a dedicated safer travel team, the PSCO, is also working from the area to provide additional support for the police.

“We continue to appeal to anyone with information or information about those committing criminal acts in Huddersfield to contact the team on 101 or online at www.westyorkshire.police.uk/livechat

“As we’ve said, commuters should be able to go about their business safely and we intend to make sure they can.”
