Thunderstorms live in Huddersfield, Leeds and Sheffield as the Met Office issues weather warnings for tonight

Last week’s fine summer weather will come to an abrupt end this evening as West Yorkshire braces for torrential rain and epic storms.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for the west of the country, covering Huddersfield, Calderdale, Bradford and Leeds, as well as South Yorkshire, including Sheffield. Already the heavens have opened in Todmorden with thunder rumbling across the sky.

The Met Office says the hill of storms hit Huddersfield between 9pm and 10pm this evening, but the warning is in place for the rest of today, Monday and Tuesday.

The weather service said the warning could leave spray and flash flooding, leading to difficult driving conditions. This could also affect trains and buses, while power cuts may occur.

The Met Office said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms could lead to some disruption in some places, particularly for travel. Flooding of isolated property is possible”.
