Coventry has the highest wages in the region as the map shows huge pay gaps for men and women

Full-time workers in Coventry earn more on average than those working elsewhere in the region. Wages in Coventry average £798 per week for a full-time employee, or £39,491 per year.

It is almost £10,000 more on an annual salary than nearby Nuneaton and Bedworth, which has the lowest average wages in the Coventry and Warwickshire area. Here, workers take home £596 a week or £29,796 a year.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) data comes from the annual Survey of Hours and Earnings, based on a 1% sample of full-time jobs taken from HM Revenue and Customs’ Pay As You Earn (PAYE) records. It illustrates huge differences between the wages of people living in the best and lowest paid council areas in the UK.

The ONS data shows the average and median wages of full-time workers living in each part of the country. The ONS believes that the average wage – the amount below which 50% of jobs fall – is a more accurate measure of average earnings than taking the average amount, which can be skewed by a small number of very well-paid jobs.
