After Charlie McNeill, Sheffield Wednesday close to signing another Premier League gem

Following news that Sheffield Wednesday are set to sign Charlie McNeill from Manchester United, the Owls now look set to close in on another Premier League talent.

Reports emerged on Monday revealing that Sheffield Wednesday will sign Charlie McNeill after his Manchester United contract expires.

The forward looks set to become the Owls’ sixth signing of what is proving to be a very interesting summer transfer window at Hillsborough.

McNeill will support a growing Sheffield Wednesday frontline, with Jamal Lowe recently joining the club on a free transfer, as first revealed by the Sheffield Wednesday News.

Olaf Kobacki also looks set to join Sheffield Wednesday from current Polish second division club Arka.

And after McNeill and Kobacki, or even before the pair’s arrival, Sheffield Wednesday appear to be closing in on a deal to sign another Premier League youngster ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Sheffield Wednesday are trying to ‘finalise’ the loan deal for Brighton jewel James Beadle

Sheffield Wednesday were keen to re-sign James Beadle on loan from Brighton after the England U20 man’s positive spell in S6 last season.

The Owls signed Beadle during the January transfer window and the 19-year-old went on to keep eight clean sheets in 19 Championship outings, replacing the now-departed Cameron Dawson in the starting XI.

Now journalist Joe Crann has revealed that Beadle is in Sheffield as the club “try and complete” a deal for him to return on loan ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

The Sheffield Wednesday News revealed in May that Brighton would send Beadle out on loan this summer, regardless of their own goalkeeper situation.

Sheffield Wednesday must avoid the James Beadle transfer trap

Having Beadle back, and ideally for a full season this time, will be great news for Rohl.

Beadle really compliments the passing style of play at Sheffield Wednesday and showed great improvement in his shot-stopping abilities last season as well.

However, if he re-signs for the 2024/25 season, then Sheffield Wednesday will be without their No.1 this time next summer.

At that point, another loan for Beadle or a permanent strike could be out of the question, so Rohl must consider signing a permanent goalkeeper at Sheffield Wednesday.

But in Beadle and Ben Hamer and youngster Pierce Charles, Sheffield Wednesday have a very solid goalkeeping department for the 2024/25 season.

So far this summer is proving to be a very exciting one for the Owls, with owner Dejphon Chansiri praised for showing ambition with the club after a difficult few years.
