Leeds United are yet to confirm a move for Liam Cooper after offering him a contract extension, currently a free agent when his original deal expires.

The Whites return to pre-season training at Thorp Arch today, with the first wave of Daniel Farke’s squad ready for the start of training.

Leeds have already had plenty of decisions to think about in recent weeks since the defeat at Wembley, including contract renewals.

Liam Cooper is yet to sign new terms at Leeds United

As the team gets back into the swing of pre-season training, three players are yet to seal their futures with persistent contract offers from the club.

The 24/25 retained list confirmed that Liam Cooper was one of three players offered terms at Elland Road in talks over a possible contract extension.

However, LeedsLive have now said that the centre-back and club captain is yet to make a decision, on extended leave following his involvement in Scotland’s short-lived Euro 2024 campaign.

Happy to have Aaronson back?

The report states that the terms of the new deal offered to Cooper were not visibly too good to refuse, otherwise he would have already accepted the contract:

“Leeds offered him a new deal but the terms didn’t prove good enough for the defender to sign immediately. Talks will continue between Cooper and the club for him to stay, while the possibility remains for a third party to come in.”

Cooper could consider leaving Leeds this summer

At this stage Cooper is apparently considering leaving Elland Road after 10 years here, because if he wanted to stay there wouldn’t have been such a delay as you might imagine.

He’s entitled to look to leave, knowing he won’t start much in the 24/25 under Farke.

Offers to play at other Championship clubs are sure to be lucrative enough for the centre-back, and he only needs to look at Luke Ayling’s resurgence as proof that a new club is worth it.
