Three cars seized from great drivers in Cornwall

Cornwall motorists have kept police officers busy up and down the county already this week, with three cars seized from bad drivers in just a few days. Devon and Cornwall Police’s No Excuse road safety team stopped three vehicles in Redruth, Truro and Bodmin for a variety of offences, including driving without insurance and suspected drug driving. We have images of all three seized vehicles below.

Two incidents, involving a Fiesta and a Vauxhall, happened just hours apart on Sunday 30 June. The first, posted by the No Excuses social media account on X at around 10am, involved a red Fiesta that was stopped after an alert from the Motor Insurers Bureau.

The vehicle was stopped in Redruth and the driver was found to be uninsured and his license was also suspended. The car was impounded and the driver complained, the account also said.

Later, just after 5pm, the same account posted that officers stopped a Vauxhall in Truro, which police said was being driven by an unattended provisional license holder who also tested positive for cocaine. They were arrested and the car was seized, the team added.

The No Excuses team said: “#Vauxhall stopped in #Truro – driver an unsupervised provisional license holder who tested positive for cocaine – now in custody & vehicle impounded #NoExcuse #Fatal5 @TruroPol.”

Meanwhile, in the early hours of this morning (Tuesday, July 2), an Astra was stopped in Bodmin with the driver “obviously under the influence of alcohol”, according to the police crew. The driver failed to provide a roadside breath test and when taken into custody gave a reading of less than 72 – more than double the legal limit.

The vehicle has been impounded and the No Excuses team said the driver will be charged when he is sober. The account read: “#Astra stopped in #Bodmin for an expired ITP – driver clearly under the influence of alcohol – failed to supply roadside & in custody blew up less than 72 – vehicle impounded in the name of @DVLAgovuk – driver will be charged when sober #NoExcuse #Fatal5.”

The Fatal5 referred to in the posts refers to the so-called ‘fatal five’ driving offenses – the leading causes of fatal collision on UK roads. These include drink/drugged driving, as well as speeding, not wearing a seat belt, distractions (such as using a mobile phone behind the wheel) and careless/reckless driving.
