Chris Davies leads Birmingham City in pre-season training

Chris Davies will take a look at a selection of Birmingham City’s young talents in pre-season.

The Blues turned up for training under their new boss on Monday morning and a host of the club’s youngsters were invited to the first team in Henley-in-Arden. Davies plans to scout them to see if they are ready for a place in his squad in the upcoming campaign.

Unsurprisingly, 17-year-old sensation Romelle Donovan is one of those Davies works closely with. Donovan performed superbly for the under-21s last season and broke into the first team during Wayne Rooney’s brief spell as manager.

Donovan ended the season by earning his first call-up to the England under-18 team and marked his Three Lions debut with a goal against Northern Ireland.

Junior Dixon was the other main act for the Blues’ second string in the final quarter. The powerful forward scored 19 goals in all competitions for Steve Spooner’s side, who narrowly missed out on the national final of the Professional Development League with Sheffield United.

That team’s captain, Josh Home, also gets a chance under Davies. At home he is a technically sound midfielder who impressed John Eustace last pre-season.
