Wakefield residents are on high alert after a woman was sexually assaulted while she slept

WAKEFIELD, Bronx (PIX11) – Residents in the Wakefield section of the Bronx are on high alert as police search for a man who allegedly sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman inside her home.

The NYPD released surveillance video of the suspect.

“As a woman, I don’t want to hear that in this area; It’s crazy. So how did he get into her house?” said resident Latifah.

Authorities told PIX11 News the perpetrator broke a window. According to police sources, the victim was sleeping and the man had a sexual act.

“I hope that whoever did it, whoever is responsible for this, is actually caught and put aside because it’s not safe for us,” said Shanon Swaby.

It happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday near East 230 Street and White Plains Road.

A longtime resident of the neighborhood said it’s changing, and not for the better.

Officials said the suspect fled after the attack. The victim was transported to an area hospital.
