Bradford Bulls sign cousin of England star and former Huddersfield Giants prop

Bradford Bulls have confirmed the signing of 18-year-old Jacob Bateman, with the teenager becoming the latest Academy graduate to sign a professional contract with the club.

It was announced that Batemen had completed his two-year deal last night as the Championship club hosted a fan forum to provide an update on how the club are doing at mid-season, while also looking ahead to next season.

The club is certainly looking to the future with the new two-year deal for Bateman, the cousin of former Bradford Bulls man and current NRL star John Bateman, with the 18-year-old regarded as one of the club’s rising prospects.

Bateman made his debut for the Bulls in May when he played against Sheffield Eagles and the club are incredibly excited about the future of the second singer, who is 12 years younger than his more famous cousin, who started his and career at Odsal in 2011.

He would go on to make 35 appearances for the Bulls at the start of a glittering career that saw him represent Wigan Warriors more than 175 times across two spells, as well as two spells in the NRL.

It’s a major boost for the Bradford Bulls to be able to hold on to young talent rather than serve as a selling club, and in Jacob Bateman, they have a player they’re apparently very excited about.

The club confirmed his signing on their website in an official statement in which they labeled him as one of the “stars of the future”, with head coach Eamon O’Carroll praising the work of the club’s junior pathway system.

O’Carroll said: “It’s brilliant and hopefully there’s more to come, there’s a young and exciting group coming in that’s even younger than Jacob, the staff including Ryan Hunkin, Glenn Morrison, Martyn Oxbury and Jonathan Schofield are doing a fantastic job . job with our younger players,” said O’Carroll, who is sponsored by M&S Combustion Ltd.

“I’m very happy for Jacob, he comes from a good family, I’ve met his father and grandfather several times and I think this is the best place for him to develop on and off the pitch.

“We want to be part of that journey to help him, he is desperate to play for Bradford which is fantastic and hopefully there are many more to follow.”

The Bulls also confirmed they have signed former Huddersfield Giants prop Nathon Mason for 2025, with the 30-year-old returning after a short loan spell in 2023.
