Josh Windass thanks Danny Rohl after signing a new contract at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday have confirmed that Josh Windass has signed a new contract with the club.

Windass was one of a number of players whose contracts expired at the end of the season for Sheffield Wednesday.

Their future was in deep doubt as they looked set for relegation, but their survival gave fans hope that many of their key players would stay.

After Liam Palmer and Barry Bannan put pen to paper, it looked like Windass would quickly join them.

However, contract talks appeared to hit a snag and the midfielder looked set to leave Yorkshire on a free transfer.

With negotiations resuming last week, it has now been confirmed that he has extended his stay at Hillsborough.

Josh Windass is delighted with new Sheffield Wednesday deal

Windass was pictured wearing the club’s new away kit as he pledged his future Owls.

With the long saga coming to an end, the 30-year-old shared his delight at his new venture.

He wrote on X: “Delighted to stay at this club. It took a while, but I got there eventually. Thanks to Danny and his staff! Let’s go.”

The midfielder’s positive impact does not go unnoticed

Windass’ future was unclear after he missed part of the campaign through injury, with some fans complaining that his high wages had not been proven.

However, once back in the team he really excelled under Danny Rohl and scored in the final three games of the campaign.

Despite making just 22 starts, Windass had the team’s most shots (52), fourth most key passes (29) and had the second most goal contributions (9).

He has previously hailed the German coach as the best he has ever worked with, so it would be a surprise if he chose to leave.

Windass will likely have plenty of competition for his place in the starting line-up next season, but Rohl obviously likes him a lot and fresh competition could see the team get the best out of him.

It’s another step in the right direction for Wednesday, who will now focus on extending the contracts of Dominic Iorfa and Di’Shon Bernard.
