19 pictures show the scale of a huge blaze as smoke billows across Merseyside

A huge fire has broken out on the Huyton Industrial Estate.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at an incident in Wilson Road, Huyton. Crews were alerted at 19.34 and on the scene at 19.48, with six fire engines and an aerial apparatus present.

On arrival this is a large pile of household waste involved in the fire, measuring approximately 50m x 50m and 5m high. The fire spread to a nearby single-story warehouse.

There are now 10 fire engines and two aerial apparatus assigned to this incident for staff and due to the size of the fire.

An MFRS spokesman said: “Crews are working incredibly hard to tackle the fire. A ground monitor and main jet are in use as the aerial apparatus is being installed.

“Due to a large visible plume of smoke, residents and businesses in the area should keep their doors and windows closed. People with an existing condition should keep their medicines close at hand and if adverse effects occur call NHS 111 for advice.

“This is an ongoing incident, please avoid the area.”
